Traditionally in Berat the visitor has found special hospitality, experiencing a pleasant and relaxing environment, the opportunity to enjoy a characteristic traditional cuisine combined with the modern one, which includes the famous olives, lamb and turkey meat and wines produced from the vineyards around the city.

The most developed branch of tourism so far has been handicrafts. Craftsmanship, for the city, is an inherited value which is maintained even today in Berat in several genres, such as: embroidery wood carving, silver and other metal work, straw work, stone slab carving, decorative stone work.

In recent years there has been a revival of these crafts. The visitor can find in some shops carvings with a characteristic view of Berat. The works of some of Berat's masters have been distributed abroad. In 1901, Berat was the center of the sanjak dependent on the vilayet of Ioannina.

Tourism is one of the most promising areas of Berat's economic development. The city inherits from the past a long and rich series of historical, cultural, ethnographic, architectural and religious values, which constitute a considerable potential for tourism. With the tourist resources of the city, it is possible to develop family and organized tourism. In some areas of the district (Tomor), mountain tourism can be developed with many aspects within it, as well as hunting.
