The city of Durrës, nowadays, lies right on the ancient ruins of Epidamni. Durrës, which was founded around 627 BC, is one of the most important cities in Albania and in the Adriatic area, rich in history, architecture and archaeological sites such as: the Amphitheater, the City Walls, the Byzantine Forum, the Venetian Tower , the ancient Roman baths, the Basilica of Saint Michael" Arapaj, the Fortification of Skanderbeg at Cape Rodon, etc. Also, Durrës has an underwater wealth, which constitutes an added value for our city, values which can further encourage the development of archaeological tourism.
After the new administrative-territorial reform, the city of Durrës has an area of 341.9 km2 and a coastline of 64 km.
Durrës counts about 20 monuments of cultural heritage and 12 objects of special importance, which can be visited throughout the year by both local and foreign visitors/tourists.
